Rutherford County is at a crossroads. The high cost of living and lack of housing has made the county unaffordable for many families. Now county officials are considering a new downzoning plan that threatens to price out even more families.

The so-called growth plan known as ‘Plan Rutherford’ will strip property rights, drive up development costs, and take away affordable housing options for families. If Plan Rutherford passes, economic growth will shrink as our workforce is forced out of the county. With fewer workers and higher business costs, employers will look elsewhere to create jobs.

Higher property taxes, reduced housing, business closures, and even job loss — all at a time when we can least afford it.
